Which US state has the motto "Eureka"?

"Eureka" has been translated as: "I have found it." The great seal of California, first designed in 1849, included this Greek motto to signify either the admission of the state into the Union or a miner's success. The words were probably intended to refer to the discovery of referring to the momentous discovery of gold near Sutter's Mill in 1848.

In 1957, attempts were made to establish "In God We Trust" as the state motto, but "Eureka" was made the official state motto in 1963.

California's motto is the only state motto rendered in Greek.

It was included as an element of the Great Seal of the State of California when it was designed in 1849. The seal was designed by Major Robert Selden Garnett of the U. S. Army and adopted in 1849 at the California Constitutional Convention in Monterey.

Yes, unfortunately the proliferation of political divisiveness inserts itself into so many aspects of our lives now that something so seemingly benign as a quiz site becomes a platform for this nonsense. gdwhitton, Yes, too bad. Those "libtards" you sneer at have only succeeded in making their state economy the 5th largest in the world, ahead of the UK and almost all countriess of the world! How dare them be so prosperous by instituting polucy that starts from the ground up rather than relying on voodoo-trickle-down economics. California's success is based on policies which stand in direct opposition to those of our present administration. His so-called success has been the residual effects of the Obama administration. We are only beginning to feel the effects of Drumpf's trade/tariff wars. In the future, please hold your comments until they are based on facts rather than ignorance and prejudice. Facts matter, science is undeniable, Drumpf lies, he is a coward and a traitor, and Mueller will bring him down. The truth will win out.

dsneed, Um way further north than San Francisco. Half the state further north. Eureka is not very far from the border of Oregon. That's northwest territory. And why there is so much rain. Michael Doherty, What has made California worse is the invasion of people from especially other states and some foreigners. Over crowding in my state is making difficulties stronger here. I am 5th generation Californian and I love my state. I am 74 years old and don't plan to leave my state, but do plan to leave my city. It's no longer safe here - too much crime - too much over crowding. Life while growing up here was wonderful. I would not want to bring a child into this state into this state these days. It's a crap shoot.

His decision accepting Nixon's Justice Department policy that the King (excuse me, the President) is above the Law, resulted in skewed and turgid prose that shields the President from his criminally indictable crimes and muddied the path to impeachment.
