Which village is known as Mini Israel in India?
Kasol is a village in the Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh in India. It's situated on the banks of the Parvati river and has a very scenic environment. It attracts lots of tourists from Israel, many of whom have been living in the village for a long time. They run many restaurants and the cafes in the village too. It is called the Mini Israel of India due to the high percentage of Israeli tourists here. Israeli people also feel safer here, because as they contribute to the economy of local villages, those villagers are providing services according to their needs. That is how Kasol has become the hub of Israeli travellers, and thus, results in generating employment for the locals in the hospitality sector. Hebrew is written on the signboards at narrow streets here.
The Himalayas around the village city covers all the sides having mesmerizing scenic views and nature, for which the place is compared with Israel. Most of the restaurants here serve various Israeli dishes. Falafel, Shakshuka and Hummus with Pitta are some special Israeli dishes on the menus of the restaurants here. Israelis have explored this village in 1990s which originally belonged to the "Gaddi" tribe (shepherd community) of Himachal Pradesh.
Over the time, locals have also acclimatised and many can now fluently speak Hebrew. Residents also host an annual community feast for the Israelis to mark Rosh-Hashanah-the Israeli new year.
