Quora is a question and answer website, based in California in the USA. It was founded in 2009 by Adam d'Angelo (born 1984) and Charlie Cheever (born 1981). Both of them were former employees of Facebook. They later revealed that an alternative name that was mooted was "Quiver"!

The website first became available to the public in 2010. For the first eight years of its existence, it held out against displaying advertisements, but this changed in 2018. It has also now started the Quora Partnership Programme, whereby people pay a subscription fee and can earn money through posting on the site. This has proved controversial, as has its changing policies on anonymous postings.

That said, it has received praise for the quality of some of its answers, and various famous people have posted on the site, including Barack Obama, the former US President, and Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales. The fantasy authors Orson Scott Card and Mercedes Lackey are also regular contributors.

In 2016, a Spanish version of the site was launched, and it is now available in many languages.
