Only three head coaches have won the Division 1A college National Championship and the NFL Super Bowl - Jimmy Johnson, Barry Switzer, and Pete Carroll.

Jimmy Johnson won the College Division 1A National Championship in 1987 coaching the Miami Hurricanes. Johnson won two Super Bowls coaching the Dallas Cowboys winning Super Bowls XXVII and XXVIII in 1993 and 1994.

Barry Switzer won three College Division 1A National Championships in 1974, 1975, and 1985 coaching the Oklahoma Sooners. Switzer then won Super Bowl XXX in 1990 while coaching the Dallas Cowboys.

Pete Carroll won two College Division 1A National Championships in 2003 and 2004 coaching the University of Southern California Trojans. Carroll won Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014 as the Seattle Seahawks' head coach.

Bill Belichick won 5 Super Bowls, but never coached in college; Dick Vermeil won Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000 coaching the St. Louis Rams, and coached the UCLA Bruins in 1974-1975, not winning a college National Championship; Dan Devine never won a Super Bowl coaching the Green Bay Packers, but did win the college National Championship in 1977 while coaching The University of Notre Dame; John Robinson won a college National Championship in 1978 coaching the USC Trojans, but was never a head coach in the NFL; Jim Harbaugh never won a Super Bowl coaching the San Francisco 49ers nor a college National Championship coaching the University of Michigan Wolverines - he remains the active Michigan coach.
