'Paris, Texas' is a 1984 road movie directed by Wim Wenders and starring Harry Dean Stanton and Nastassja Kinski. The screenplay was written by L. M. Kit Carson and playwright Sam Shepard, while the distinctive musical score was composed by Ry Cooder.

Ryland Peter Cooder (born 15 March1947) known professionally as Ry Cooder, is an American musician, songwriter, film score composer and record producer. He is a multi-instrumentalist but is best known for his slide guitar work, his interest in roots music from the United States, and his collaborations with traditional musicians from many countries.

Cooder was a session musician on various recording sessions with The Rolling Stones in 1968 and 1969, and his contributions appear on the albums 'Let It Bleed' and 'Sticky Fingers', on which he contributed the slide guitar on "Sister Morphine". During this period, Cooder joined with Mick Jagger, Charlie Watts, Bill Wyman, and longtime Rolling Stones sideman Nicky Hopkins to record 'Jamming with Edward!'

Cooder also played slide guitar for the 1970 film soundtrack 'Performance', which contained Jagger's first solo single, 'Memo from Turner'.

Ry Cooder is a six times 'Grammy' award winner, and the recipient of Honarary Doctorates from Queen's University, Canada (2000) and California Institute of the Arts in 2001 and has a catalogue of work spanning five decades, with the memorable 'Little Sister' single recorded in 1979.
