In the 1994 film "The Shawshank Redemption", the opera song that Andy Dufresne plays over the loud speakers is "Canzonetta sull'aria" from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Marriage of Figaro".

During the making of the film,Tim Robbins as Andy Dufresne thought of the idea of his character turning up the volume of the record player in the scene where he plays the opera music from Mozart over the PA system. The director and writer, Frank Darabont, stated that the action of using a higher volume resulted with the music bringing more intensity, comic emotion, and drama to the scene.

Here, the film hoped that the music represented the freedom that the prisoners did not have. This is mentioned in the film when Red ( Morgan Freeman) talks about how it is "the first time everyone in the prison has stopped what they are doing just to take in the freedom of the music". Andy is using the PA against the warden (the person in charge of a prison); plus, it also shows a sign of freedom. The sound here plays a huge role in the whole movie and becomes a turning point for the rest of "Shawshank Redemption" and the idea of freedom.
