In 1851 in England, John Cox Stevens and his ownership syndicate raced in the 100 Pound Guinea Cup on America, a beautiful schooner. Harold Vanderbilt was a successful defender of the Cup and Sir Thomas Lipton was a beloved, but unsuccessful challenger.
