Who didn't star in the movie "The Longest Day"?

The plot of this amazing movie is built upon the events of World War II – in particular, upon the significant battle that took place on the 6th of June, 1944.

As the movie describes a crucial point of the war for the Americans, the creators were very precise about choosing the "right" actors. That's why French and German soldiers spoke their native language during the whole movie (the viewers were provided with subtitles in English). Moreover, that was the reason for the producers to invite professional actors, not just stars (like Elvis Presley).

The film was highly appreciated not only by ordinary viewers but by critics as well.

This has always been one or my favorite war movies, simply because, everything in the movie ACTUALLY HAPPENED. Maybe not exactly in the way the film presents, but they did happen. Richard Todd portrays Major John Howard, commander of the British glider troops sent in to capture and hold some strategic bridges on the Orne River and Caen Canal. He was really involved in these activities on D-Day. Talk about an experienced technical advisor, and he fits the bill.

It was the l o n g e s t movie my then 19 year old self ever sat through. And I was not into history then so I was mostly bored out of my mind.

A phenomenal film, made from an even better book. The author, Irish-American war correspondent Cornelius Ryan, penned three epic books, each detailing the events leading to and about one particular battle. These include The Longest Day: 6 June 1944 D-Day (1959), The Last Battle (1966), and A Bridge Too Far (1974).

Wow...one of my all time top ten movies. The invasion of Normandy (D-DAY) as seen through different point of views. Beautifully directed. Kudos to choreography.

I got the answer right, but i have not seen the movie. Im going to try and watch it sometime, it sounds like a great movie. I think i must have heard somewhere elvis was not in the movie, cuz it didnt feel like i was trying to guess. I just knew the answer.

Donna Smith, Elvis was quite the star and an exceptional musician, but he was NOT an actor! In his many movies he was basically “playing himself”. This movie required serious professional actors.

So many cameo roles in that movie. I still remember parts so well. It is a great movie in the interest of learning something about that war. It'll make somethings come clear now, if you've never seen it. I think it still has legs after all these years. And it helps in crossword puzzles and here.
