Who formulated the law of universal gravitation?
Sir Isaac Newton is considered one of the greatest scientists of his time. His incursion into different fields of knowledge resulted in important works in optics, physics (including laws of motion and universal gravitation), mathematics (including the invention of calculus), astronomy (including the invention of the reflecting telescope), and many others. His magnum opus is called Principia Mathematica and is written in Latin.

Not knowing a particular fact does not make anyone "simple minded," just as these quizzes which proclaim one to be a genius for being able to answer certain trivia questions are nonsense. I'm sometimes surprised at the number of people who get something wrong which I think "should be" common knowledge, but participants come from many different places and educational and cultural backgrounds. They have knowledge of things that many of us don't.

I wonder how many people know that every object with mass exerts a gravitational attraction on every other object with mass; it is not just the Earth, the moon & other celestial bodies. We learned all this in school, but never saw a satisfactory explanation of WHY gravity exists. Apparently it can only be explained by Einstein's Theory of Relativity which delves into the space/time continuum, whatever that is . . .
