Continental Drift Theory, given by Alfred Wegener, says that all the continents present today were once joined together as a single landmass, millions of years ago. The huge landmass or single mega continent was called Pangea which was surrounded by a single ocean called Panthalassa. Later they disintegrated and started to drift apart. Slowly and ultimately they formed the continents as they are at present.

In his support he gives the example of the S shape of the Atlantic Ocean and the two continents on its either side- Africa and Americas which fit like a jigsaw puzzle.

Also several similar fossils of plants and animals were found on western coast of Africa and eastern coast of South America. The topography, soil, and other geological characteristics can also be matched in these two continents on opposite sides such as the Appalachian mountains(USA) and Celadonian mountains(Scotland).
