Who invented the first patented gas mask?
Garrett Morgan was an inventor and businessman from Cleveland, Ohio. He is known for inventing the first patented gas mask. Also, he is known for his three-position traffic signal patented in 1923. Plus, he is noted for other inventions and hair care products. These items include: a chemical for hair-straightening and a safety hood smoke protection device. It was used by firefighters who were struggling with smoke from fires.
Garrett Morgan was born in March 1877 in Clayville, Kentucky. He died in Cleveland, Ohio on July 27, 1963 at the age of 86.

We wear gas mask in military training often. I can tell you they are the most uncomfortable devices you can imagine. But I would rather be uncomfortable and alive if I ever had to deal with a chemical attack.
