Donald John Trump born June 14 1946, is the 45th President of the United States, sworn in on January 20, 2017.

Born in the New York City borough of Queens, he earned an economics degree from Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and served as chairman and president of the Trump Organisation from 1971, till his inauguration as president. His business career primarily focused on renovations of offices, buildings, hotels and casinos.

He also started several side ventures and branded various products with his name. He is credited with having written or co- written several books too, including The Art of the Deal and produced and hosted The Apprentice a television series for 12 years. As of 2017, he is the 544th richest man in the world, worth at least $3.5 billion.

In 2016, entered the presidential race as a republican and defeated 16 opponents in the primaries. Described as a populist, protectionist and nationalist he received free media coverage; many of his utterances were either controversial or false. He won the general election in November 2016. A surprise victory against Democrat Hillary Clinton, becoming the oldest and wealthiest person ever to assume the mantle of president, even though he had no prior military or government service. His election and policies have sparked numerous protests and his election campaigners have been accused of having links with Russia.
