Heather Lynn Johnsen is a Sergeant in the 3rd U.S. Infantry, The Old Guard, and the first woman selected to guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

She was installed in September, 1997 after passing a rigorous training course, and final testing.

Prior to her assignment, she was an MP in the 3rd U.S. Infantry, The Old Guard, which is the oldest continuously active unit in the Army.

They are known for their unflinching dedication to guard the remains of the Unknown Soldier interred in the Tomb, as well as the remains of his fellow soldiers, also unknown, who are also interred at the site under marked white marble slabs on the terrazzo.
