Milos Zeman (28 September 1944) is a Czech politician and the third and current Czech president. Zeman was the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic from 1998 - 2002. He was the first directly elected president of his country; the first two presidents were elected by the Czech parliament. His first term of office came with the Czech election of January 2013. He was reelected in 2018.

While a communist in his earlier years, by 1989 he had become one of the leaders of the "Velvet Revolution", a non-violent transfer of power within what was then Czechoslovakia, against the one party communist dictatorship, ending 41 years of communist domination of the country. Zeman has been a strong ruler, with his own ideas of where The Czech Republic fits into the fabric of Europe and the world. Lately, due in part to a series of scandals, his approval rating has fallen, but he still was able to win a second term in 2018 with 51+ percent of the vote.
