Who is Roy Kent?
"Roy Kent", is a character from the 2020 TV series "Ted Lasso". Portrayed by Brett Goldstein (born 17 July 1980). He is a veteran box-to-box midfielder, captain and later assistant coach of AFC Richmond. Kent is primarily based on hot-headed Irish former footballer Roy Keane (born 10 August 1971). Goldstein was hired as a writer for "Ted Lasso". Goldstein felt such a kinship with this character that he emailed a self-taped audition of five scenes to the production team. The tapes, which included the 'If I don't hear silence I'm gonna start punching dicks' scene from the pilot, ended up scoring him the role. He won two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series two years in a row, in 2021 and 2022, for his work on the show.
"Ted Lasso" is an American sports comedy-drama television series developed by Jason Sudeikis (born September 18, 1975), Bill Lawrence (born December 26, 1968), Brendan Hunt (born 1972), and Joe Kelly (born September 24,1972).
It is based on a character of the same name that Sudeikis first portrayed in a series of promos for NBC Sports' coverage of the 2013 English Premier League games. The series follows Ted Lasso, an American college football coach who is hired to coach an English soccer team in an attempt by its owner to spite her ex-husband by covertly causing its failure. Lasso tries to win over the skeptical English market with his folksy, optimistic demeanor while dealing with his inexperience in the sport.
