The popular U.S. comedian who also did "Monday Night Football" was Dennis Miller. Dennis Miller through his abilities proved himself to be one of the premier comedy talents in America. He was a guy who in his first season in the TV booth on ABC's NFL "Monday Night Football," was joined by veteran commentators Al Michaels and NFL Hall of Famer Dan Fouts.

It was in June 2000 that Miller auditioned for the job as a"Monday Night Football" commentator. He sat with Al Michaels in a Los Angeles, CA studio to do a mock broadcast. Miller's NFL knowledge surprised those in attendance.

He had grown up watching the 1970s championship Steelers. Plus he was an avid watcher of the NFL draft. He had even inquired about an announcing job with the Fox Network after they had acquired rights to show NFL games in 1994.

Michaels later told an interviewer, "It was way beyond what we expected. I had no idea that he (Miller) knew as much about football as he did. He made points that other analysts we brought in never made, and his points were more salient, more interesting, and better stated. He was giving his riff, analyzing the plays, and providing the humor. He was amazing."
