Beginning in 1972 with "Tales Of A Fourth Grade Nothing", Peter Hatcher has narrated the ridiculous antics of his little brother, Farley Drexel Hatcher, nicknamed Fudge, through four best-selling children's books and all three sequels have all borne the brat's name: "Superfudge", "Fudge-A-Mania", and "Double Fudge".

Also witness to many of this ridiculous goings-on is the boys' father Warren Hatcher, Peter's best friend Jimmy Fargo, and Fudge's pal Daniel Manheim, introduced in the sequel. Peter is the sympathetic protagonist in the stories, who's had to blow the whistle when Fudge destroys his homework, claims to have swallowed Peter's pet turtle, and in the sequel, covered their baby sister with stamps.
