Sir Elton Hercules John CBE, born Reginald Kenneth Dwight on March 25, 1947, is an English singer, pianist, and composer. Elton was raised in the Pinner area of London. He learned to play piano at an early age and by 1962 had formed a popular rhythm and blues group called Bluesology.

They begun playing local bars, and in 1963, moved up to a regular weekly slot at the Establishment Club in London, covering American blues artists like Muddy Waters, Jimmy Witherspoon and Memphis Slim.

Later, in order to create his stage name, he took the first names of his band members Elton Dean and John Baldry.

He began working with lyricist Bernie Taupin in 1967; they have collaborated on more than 30 albums to date. In his career Elton John has sold more than 300 million records, making him one of the best-selling music artists in the world and the top selling solo artist in the United States. In 2017 they celebrated 50 years of collaboration.
