Vittorio Pozzo still remains the only manager/coach to successfully defend the Football World Cup when he led Italy to the Championship in 1934 in Rome defeating Czechoslovakia 2-1 and again in 1938 in Paris defeating Hungary 4-2.

Many have tried since, but never yet emulated this amazing feat.

He also managed Italy to win the Olympic Gold in the 1936 Berlin Games - adding to the uniqueness - no other manager can claim that triumvirate of trophies in World Football history. His genius was the creation of a unique 'metodo' system - strong defense and rapid counter-attack which was not commonly used at that time.

Of course Pozzo was not able to defend the World Cup in 1942 due to the outbreak of the Second World War - the next competition took place in 1950 in Brazil.
