Who is the person depicted in the photo?

Charles Darwin's theory of evolution made him one of the best known persons of all time. In his book called On the Origin of Species (published in 1859) Darwin explained biological change with the help of his theory.

Naturalist Charles Darwin was born in Shrewsbury, England, on February 12, 1809. In 1831, he embarked on a five-year survey voyage around the world on the HMS Beagle. His studies of specimens around the globe led him to formulate his theory of evolution and his views on the process of natural selection.

Darwin's exposure to specimens all over the globe raised important questions. Other naturalists believed that all species either came into being at the start of the world, or were created over the course of natural history. Darwin noticed similarities among species all over the globe, along with variations based on specific locations, leading him to believe that they had gradually evolved from common ancestors. He came to believe that species survived through natural selection.

Ma Bales, Science doesn't CARE what you believe in. Suggestion: Lose some of that hateful, know-it-all attitude that dogma has instilled into your heart and mind, and that has been the downfall of all religion to begin with, and concentrate more on spirituality in general and trying to be a good person to your fellow man, whether he came from monkeys or not. Darwin and Wallace both came to this conclusion at the same time. Darwin was unwilling to publish but once he knew Wallace would he did. Darwin knew the church functioned as social glue which is what held him back from publishing for years. As for the bible there is nothing in it of substance to oppose or support evolution. Just as the bible also neither confirms or denies the earth being at the centre of the universe. The fixed positions on these matters are determined by church hierachies.

Don't forget that part of his theory includes the thought that men attain "a higher eminence, in whatever he takes up, than can women—whether requiring deep thought, reason, or imagination, or merely the use of the senses and hands."
