Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty (12/8/1982 Saint James, Port of Spain, Trinidad of Tobago), known professionally as Nicki Minaj, is a Trinidadian-born rapper, singer, songwriter and actress. She is noted for her versatility as an artist, her lyricism and animated flow in her rapping and her usage of alter egos and accents.
Minaj first gained recognition after releasing three mixtapes between 2007 and 2009. She rose to fame with her debut album, 'Pink Friday' (2010), which topped the U.S. 'Billboard' 200.
The first single, "Super Bass", reached number three on the U.S. 'Billboard' Hot 100 and became the highest charting solo song by a female rapper since 2002. It became diamond certified in the U.S.
Minaj's genres include hip hop and pop. Some of her associated acts include Ariana Grande (6/26,1993), Lil Wayne (9/27/1982), Kanye West (6/8/1977) and Madonna (9/16/1958).

Her accolades include eight American Music Awards, five MTV Video Music Awards and twelve BET (Black Entertainment Television) Awards amongst many others.
Saint James became a part of the city of Port of Spain in 1938. James was a sugar cane estate that harboured some of the first East Indian settlers.
