Bhumibol Adulyadej, also known as Rama IX, ascended the Thai throne following the death by gunshot wound of his brother, King Ananda Mahidol, on the 9th of June, 1946. He is the 9th monarch of the Chakri Dynasty.
The longest-reigning king in Thai history is respected and revered by people of his country.
