Luigina "Gina" Lollobrigida was born on the 4th of July, 1927, in Subiaco, Italy. Her father was a furniture manufacturer, who lived in the pictorial mountain village. Gina grew up with three sisters, Giuliana, Maria, and Fernanda. Before entering the film industry, Luigina practiced some modeling, taking part in several beauty contests. After this she started filming in Italian movies in some minor roles. In the late fifties she became one of the best known European actresses and a sex symbol famous worldwide.

Later Lollobrigida's career in the movies slowed, and she tried herself as a photojournalist and sculptor. She was quite successful in her second careers, even gaining access to Fidel Castro for an exclusive interview.
