Who made the first non-stop transatlantic flight?
The British aviators made the flight from St. John's, Newfoundland, to Clifden, Connemara, County Galway, Ireland in June 1919, using a modified First World War Vickers Vimy bomber. The aviators were also the first ones to make a transatlantic airmail journey: some mail was successfully delivered by them. Eight years later Charles Lindbergh made the first solo nonstop flight. Amelia Earhart made her flight in 1932.

Juan Johnny Cruz: Indeed. And Lindbergh was generous in acknowledgement: on landing in Paris after his own record breaking flight in 1927, he told the crowd welcoming him that "Alcock and Brown showed me the way!"

Paul Slone, It doesn't, except maybe in America. Charles Lindberg made the FIRST SOLO crossing of the Atlantic, Alcock & Browne made the first crossing in a converted British Vickers Vimy bomber, in 1919.

It only doesn't seem right because Alcock's and Brown's achievement went pretty much unhearlded. All the hype was saved for Lindberg 9 years later for his solo flight. And, while we know about Amelia Earhart, we only know about her because she was lost on her epic flight, nobody remembers that she also crossed the Atlantic solo.
