Goldie Hawn from the 1960s era TV show Rowan and Martin's Laugh used to wear a bikini and say "Sock it to me!" The meaning referred to playing a bad joke on her or doing the most facetious thing you could to her. "Come on, lay it on." It was really funny because she was a tiny cute person using the words at just random moments in times. Also, it was said that the thing about Goldie Hawn (1968–1970) was that she offered the phrase with a teeny giggle, so that you knew she was thinking of it in some terms of robust sex or performing a fun activity.

Additionally, it is believed that the Laugh-In cast members worked very hard to break the bounds of network standards and say things television people were not supposed to say--or even suggest. So what Goldie Hawn actually did and said on the show was seen as a challenge to others and to fake out guests, the viewing public, members, critics, etc.
