'Homeland' is a spy thriller television series featuring CIA officer Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes), who is top of her field despite being bipolar. Her illness, however, makes her very unpredictable. Running from 2011 until 2020, 'Homeland' spans eight seasons, which take place in various locations, such as Iraq, Beirut, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Germany and the USA. Developers Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa loosely based the show on the Israeli television series 'Prisoners of War'. Within a year, the show had won a Golden Globe Award for Best Television Series for Drama and the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series. Danes won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series twice.
