Who played Gene Autry's sidekick on the U.S. western show "The Gene Autry Show"?
The man who was Gene Autry's sidekick on the U.S. western show "The Gene Autry Show" (1950 - 1956) was Pat Buttram. He was Gene's usual comic relief and best known sidekick during the time that the show ran on CBS. For the first season, Gene's sidekick was twice played by Chill Wills (as Chill).
On the show, fans were able to follow the adventures of the singing cowboy, Gene Autry, his 'Wonder Horse' Champion, and his always loyal and not so clever sidekick Pat Buttram. They were guys who traveled the southwestern part of America to maintain law and order and help those in need.
The series had stand-alone half-hour episodes and was set in the past with some tales in the near present of the early 1950s. Each unique episode had Gene's trademark mixture of action, comedy, and singing. Also there was the hard riding, furious fighting, and the smooth singing Gene Autry which at the time made him one of America's really favorite cowboys.
