Who played Lance White, the debonair rival private eye, who annoyed Jim Rockford on "The Rockford Files"?

On the NBC network between September 1974 and January 1980, the American TV series "The Rockford Files" aired. Thanks to a handful of popular appearances on that show as squeaky clean (and annoyingly perfect) private eye Lance White, Tom Selleck annoyed Jim Rockford again and again. White was seen by others such as local police officers as they watched him do his job and enjoyed it when he busted Jim Rockford's chops.

Within the episodes showing Lance White, he was liked and even admired by almost everyone except Rockford. White was considered to be a naive, lucky, and slick PI by Jim. Rockford got caught saying that White was a successful private investigator with an unapologetic approach to business; he was the one who would most likely cause other people to get hurt before he himself got hurt.
