The 1992 film ‘Malcolm X’ was an American epic biographical drama about the African-American activist named Malcolm X (1925 -1965). Directed and co-written by Spike Lee (born 1957), the film stars Denzel Washington (born 1954) in the title role as Malcolm X.
The film is based on ‘The Autobiography of Malcom X , a collaboration between Malcom X and Alex Haley (1921 - 1992), published in 1965.
The film dramatizes key events in Malcom X’s life including his criminal career, his incarceration, his conversion to Islam, his ministry as a member of the Nation of Islam, and his later falling out with the organization, his marriage to Betty X, his pilgrimage to Mecca and re-evaluation of his views concerning whites, and his assassination. Washington is an American actor, director, and producer who has received 3 Golden Globe Awards, one Tony Ward, and two Academy Awards: Best Supporting Actor for playing a Union Army soldier in the historical drama film ‘Glory’ (1989), and Best Actor for his role as the corrupt detective Alonzo Harris in the crime thriller ‘Training Day’ (2001).
