Who played scheming Master Sergeant Ernie Bilko in the 1996 film "Sgt. Bilko"?

In the 1996 film "Sgt. Bilko", the scheming Master Sergeant Ernie Bilko was played by Steve Martin. Martin was larger than life in this funny comedy. He played a character who was lazy, sleazy, clever, and always one step ahead of everyone else.

Bilko ran the Army motor pool like an 'Animal House'. The men in Bilko's unit spent all their time gambling and sleeping off unfortunate mishaps. A new recruit (Darryl Mitchell) did not understand that military professionalism is a not the norm in the motor pool; it was in fact something that should be avoided at all cost.

In the film, the plot took off when Phil Hartman showed up. He's an old adversary of Bilko and wanted to even an old score. He demanded that Bilko and his men shape up. He also started to romance Bilko's girlfriend, which of course drove Bilko crazy. This movie with Steve Martin was funny and okay, but it doesn't equal the original TV series "Sgt. Bilko" with Phil Silvers. The 50s TV series was considered a classic.
