"Magnum, P.I." is an American crime drama television series starring Tom Selleck as Thomas Sullivan Magnum IV, a private investigator (P.I.) living on Oahu, Hawaii.
He lives in the Hawaiian mansion of writer Robin Master and drives his red Ferrari. There also lives a butler of English origin named Jonathan Quayle Higgins III, in charge of the care and maintenance of the mansion.
He worked on small-time cases as a freelance investigator; he was once required by the head of the Honolulu Police Criminal Investigations Department, to solve murder cases. He was helped by two great friends and ex-comrades from the Vietnam War, "Rick" and "T.C.".

He has also starred in movies like "Three Men and a Baby", "Mr. Baseball" and "Quigley Down Under", with later television projects including "Friends", "Jesse Stone" and "Blue Bloods".
Upon receiving a draft notice during the Vietnam War, he joined the California National Guard. He served in the 160th Infantry Regiment of the California Army National Guard from 1967 to 1973.
He played small roles in movies and TV projects during the 1970s once he decided to pursue acting. He appeared in "The Wide World of Mystery", "Marcus Welby, M.D.", "The Young and the Restless", "Charlie's Angels", and "Taxi", among others.
