Who said, "God is on the side with the best artillery"?
Napoleon Bonaparte (1769 – 1821) is considered as one of the greatest military leaders of all times. He was one of the key leaders who played an important role during the French Revolution (May 1789 – November 1799). Here, with this quote ("God is on the side with the best artillery"), Napoleon is talking about God along with an idea on how war, an intense armed conflict between states, governments, societies, etc., can be won when using military artillery. It is one of the main slogans that Napoleon focuses on, with an idea on how an army can have "order, security, and efficiency”. It is a straightforward idea that this military leader is said to have truly believed in.
Napoleon was a French military and political leader. He rose to eminence during the French Revolution and led several successful campaigns during the Revolutionary Wars. He was also considered to be a strong follower of Jesus Christ and said that, “Jesus Christ founded his empire upon love: and at this hour millions of men would die for him”.
Napoleon’s last words were, “La France, l’armée, tête d’armée, Joséphine” (“France, the army, head of the army, Joséphine”). Respected for his discipline, honor and ability to face some intense situations in the name of love, liberty, and his beliefs, Napoleon knew a thing or two about surviving in combat. He particularly knew how to best use military artillery to win a battle and/or a war, according to past and present famed military historians.
