Who said "I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today"?
The popular cartoon character who has said "I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today" has been Wimpy. J. Wellington Wimpy, generally referred to as Wimpy, is one of the characters in the comic strip 'Popeye', created by E. C. Segar in 1931. The strip was originally called 'Thimble Theatre'.
Wimpy is a hefty hamburger lover and close friend of Popeye, the sailor man. He plays the role of “straight man” to Popeye. Wimpy is well known for his mooching ways and for having a very deceptively high level of intelligence. He is a soft-spoken and cowardly gentleman who will do whatever it takes to get a free hamburger. He very often uses the slick promise, "I'll gladly repay any kind soul Tuesday for a hamburger today", which he generally never does.
