Who said, "If we ever forget that we are one nation under God, then will be a nation gone under"?
The politician and actor Ronald Reagan (February 1911 – June 2004) was the 40th President of the United States. He served two terms as president from 1981 to 1989. He was then also the oldest person ever elected US President, which was a major issue during both elections. Known as "the Great Communicator", Reagan is now often remembered for his quick wit and astute storytelling. He was known as a leader who communicated plainly and effectively. With an acting and public-speaking background, Reagan's approach was considered simple: "Say what you mean, say it directly and make folks smile as often as possible."
The quote: "If we ever forget that we are one nation under God, then will be a nation gone under" was said by President Reagan. He gave the remark at an Ecumenical Prayer Breakfast in Dallas, Texas in August 1984. He was sharing his view of what he believed was God's awesome underpinning and involvement in each human being's life. "I (Reagan) was raised to believe that God has a plan for everyone and that seemingly random twists of fate are all a part of God's plan.
Accordingly, on that August breakfast occasion, the American President was calling and reminding the citizenry to be a unified nation that trusts God to protect them from harmful/evil forces. He was focusing on the fact that unity among the citizenry of the nation is a good and virtuous thing to pursue, so long as the people of the nation are not contradicting God; if they are, the nation will end.
