"Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee" is a quote used by the champion boxer, Muhammad Ali. These are words that he initially applied to himself (true or not) concerning his 1974 fight with George Foreman in the “Rumble in the Jungle” in Zaire. The quote is considered to mean the hands can't hit what the eyes can't see. The phrase was often repeated to describe Ali's style in the ring. Ali was impossibly light on his feet, yet able to knock out an opponent in an instant. The quote became shorthand for the man who considered himself "The Greatest".

Various news media often reported that Muhammad Ali, the original name Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr., was born in January 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky. He died in June 2016 in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was an American professional boxer, philanthropist and social activist. He was the first fighter to win the world heavyweight boxing championship on three separate occasions; he successfully defended this title 19 times. He is universally regarded as one of the greatest athletes of the 20th century. Ali became an Olympic gold medalist in 1960 and the world heavyweight boxing champion in 1964.
