Who scored a 48 metre drop-goal for New Zealand against England in the 1995 Rugby Union World Cup Semi-Final?
The 1995 Rugby Union World Cup Semi-Final between New Zealand and England, took place on 18th June 1995 at the Newlands Stadium in Cape Town, South Africa.
It was a highly entertaining competition between two of the best rugby nations in the World.
The match was renowned mainly for the brute strength of the "All Blacks" winger, Jonah Lomu as he scored a quad of tries; one of which was an amazing impression of a steamroller, as he pounded over four English defenders to score.
Along with Lomu's astounding efforts there was also another moment of brilliance from the All Black Number 8, Zinzan Brooke, who converted an astonishing 48 metre drop-goal.
There was another drop-goal in the match, scored by the NZ Fly-Half, Andrew Mehrtens, though this was a much closer kick and was easily converted.
The match was actually a game of two totally different halves.
New Zealand absolutely stole the show in the first session due to the aforementioned efforts, but England outscored the opposition in the second, though to no avail.
The final score was an impressive win for the Southern Hemisphere side by 45 points to 29.
New Zealand progressed to the Final where they succumbed to the Host Nation; South Africa; in what was a very dour affair in comparison to the preceding match.
As for England, they didn't fair any better in the 3rd/4th place play-off, where they were defeated by a powerful French team, 19-9.
Obviously, the previous match had taken all the wind out of their sails.
