Who was the first Dr Who?

The longest running SF television series has been been successfully produced by BBC since 1963. It is the only SF television programme to hold the world record for the highest number of episodes - BBC has already aired 35 seasons of the series (815 episodes!). Today it makes a significant part of British pop-culture.

Many charismatic actors have played the famous Doctor, including all four of the names in the question. William Hartnell was the first (1963-66), however, Tom Baker (1974–81) was one of the best known. Christopher Eccleston appeared briefly (2005), and John Hurt appeared in the Doctor Who 50th anniversary episode as a 'forgotten' incarnation.

My favourites from the first incarnation of DR, Who were Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee from the second incarnation it was definitely David Tennant. I began to warm to Matt Smith's interpretation of Doctor Who in his final series of the programme.

That was the one I started watching when I was 13. Patrick Troughton came next and I liked him more. Played recorder and interacted with sidekick more warmly. Pertwee was a bit camp but the series lightened and brightened. Tom Baker kept the surface levity up but his tenure saw more universal and serious themes emerge about justice and the environment. Then I went off the next few and didn't get keen again til the modern era with Matt Smith David Tennant and Jodi
