The TV "Answer and Question Game" "Jeopardy!" has made a significant mark beyond the realm of TV game shows. The original daytime version debuted on NBC on March 30, 1964 and Art Fleming was the original host. Merv Griffin created the show. As of the beginning of 2023, Ken Jennings is the winningest contestant. Alan Funt hosted another TV show, "Candid Camera."

Currently in its 39th season, "Jeopardy!" is one of the longest-running game shows of all time. The show has consistently enjoyed a wide viewership and received many accolades from professional television critics. "Jeopardy!" has also gained a worldwide following with regional adaptations in many other countries. The term, "Jeopardy!" is used because players sometimes get a chance to wager an amount of their winnings for an unknown question within a category. A true "Double Jeopardy!" involves wagering all of the winnings that the player has earned to that point in the game.

Unique to the show is that the categories list answers and the contestant must come up with the correct question for which the answer would be correct. Without the contestant phrasing their response as a question, it is incorrect.

"Jeopardy!" has been featured in several films, television shows, and books over the years, mostly with one or more characters participating as contestants, or viewing and interacting with the game show from their own homes. The format is also used in many homes and classrooms for fun and education.
