Wallace Wade was the football coach for the University of Alabama when they won its first National Championship in football. The 1925 Alabama football team finished the season with a 9-0 record winning the Southern Conference Championship.

The University of Alabama football team received an invitation to the 1926 Rose Bowl to play the undefeated University of Washington. Alabama won the game 20-19 and was selected for the national championship by the Football Annual, Billingsley, and Helms Athletic Foundation.

Johnny Mack Brown was named the most outstanding player of the 1926 Rose Bowl game, and he remained in California becoming a motion picture star. He appeared in 160 movies between 1920 and 1966. Frank Thomas and Paul "Bear" Bryant also coached Alabama to National Championships, but Wallace Wade was the coach of Alabama's first National Champion team.
