Frank Kush, who died June 22, 2017 at the age of 88, was the head coach of the Colts when owner Robert Irsay tried to sneak the franchise out of Baltimore under the cloak of night to Indianapolis in 1984.

Kush coached the Colts from 1982-to 1984 compiling an 11-28-1 record. He resigned on Dec. 13, 1984, just days before the Colts final game of the season.

Kush's legacy with the Colts is he's the reason John Elway refused to play for the team, telling them not to draft him in 1983. Elway and his father, former college coach Jack Elway, were not fans of Kush because of his reputation at Arizona State. Kush was fired from ASU amid allegations of player abuse and hindering an internal investigation.

The Colts drafted Elway, but later traded him to Denver.

Kush was 176-54-1 at Arizona State and was instrumental in getting the Fiesta Bowl founded and moving the school to the Pac-10 conference (Now the Pac-12).

Kush had suffered deteriorating health and had dementia at the time of his death.
