The last prime minister of a UK Liberal Government was David Lloyd George, who served from 1916 to 1922. The Liberal Party was one of the two big political parties in the United Kingdom in the 19th and early 20th century, the other being the Conservative Party.

The Liberal Party came from an alliance of Whigs and free-trade Peelites and radicals in the 1850s. Over the next 50 years, it formed four governments under William Gladstone. H. H. Asquith was Liberal Prime Minister between 1908 and 1916, and he was followed by David Lloyd George, whose premiership lasted until 1922. The Liberal Party never won another election. In 1988, the Liberal Party merged with the Social Democratic Party to form the Liberal Democrats.

Lloyd George's government introduced conscription, forcing men to join the armed forces, and rationing, which placed limits on the amount of food someone could buy. These came about as a result of the First World War.

After the war, Lloyd George represented Britain at the Versailles Peace Conference and helped create the Irish Free State. In October 1922, the Conservative Party led by Andrew Bonar Law won the election. Lloyd George remained an MP until his death in 1945.
