Who was the voice of Iago the parrot in the Walt Disney film "Aladdin"?
The actor who performed the voice of Iago, the parrot, in the 1992 Walt Disney film "Aladdin" was Gilbert Gottfried. The parrot that Gottfried played was a red-plumed scarlet macaw and was Jafar's sardonic, hot-tempered assistant. Jafar (Jonathan Freeman) is the power-hungry Grand vizier of Agrabah in the film.
Gilbert Gottfried voiced Iago — named after the villain of William Shakespeare’s “Othello” — as a wisecracking and easily frustrated character, saying at one point, “Look at this! I’m so ticked off that I’m molting!”
Also Gottfried has said that his voice actor career really began after voicing the character of Iago. Besides Iago, Gottfried has had the opportunity to do the voice of the duck in the 'Aflac' commercials and Digit in 'Cyberchase', as well as Mister Mxyzptlk in 'Superman: The Animated Series' (1996 - 2000 TV series) and Kraang Subprime in 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' (2012 - 2017). He reprised his role as Myxzptlk in 'Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham' (2014 action video game), 'Justice League Action' (2016 - 2018 TV series), and 'Lego DC Super-Villains' (2018 action video game). He also voiced a nasty wisecracking criminal genius named Nick-Nack in two episodes of 'Superboy' (1988 - 1992 TV series).
In sum, Gottfried's persona as a comedian and actor in movies and on television features an exaggerated shrill voice and emphasis on homespun humor. He is often in his roles trying to resolve unsophisticated problem situations.
