The popular actress who won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for playing a man in the 1982 film "The Year of Living Dangerously" is Linda Hunt. In this movie, when journalist Guy Hamilton (Mel Gibson) arrives in Jakarta, Indonesia, he has difficulty making personal contacts. He will however form a friendship with the dwarf photographer Billy Kwan (Linda Hunt). Through Billy, Guy meets British diplomat Jill Bryant (Sigourney Weaver). The diplomat falls for the journalist (Hamilton), and she gives him key information about an approaching Communist uprising. As the city becomes more dangerous, Guy Hamilton stays in the city to pursue the story. He will face a great number of threats as he gets closer to those in the top level of government.
Lydia Susanna "Linda" Hunt, who was born on April 2, 1945 (age 75), is an American actress. She was raised in Morristown, New Jersey, USA. She got her formal education at the Interlochen Arts Academy and the Goodman School of Drama at the Art Institute of Chicago (now at DePaul University). She made a breakthrough in acting by playing the male character Kwan in the 1982 film. She then became the first person to win an Oscar by portraying a character of the opposite sex.
Hunt made her film debut as Mrs. Oxheart in the film "Popeye" (1980). She went on to perform in approximately another 25 films, made in the 20th and 21st centuries. One of her latest is the 2018 film "Solo: A Star Wars Story". She is the voice of Lady Proxima.
