Sylvester Stallone wrote the screenplay for 'Rocky' in three and a half days after watching a boxing match between Muhammad Ali and Chuck Wepner on 24th March 1975. Stallone also starred in the film, which was released in 1976.

The film is about a man living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, who is trying to become a great boxer. It was directed by John Avildsen and won three Academy Awards. It was followed by 5 sequels, of which the fifth came out in 2006.

Sylvester Stallone starred as Robert "Rocky" Balboa, Sr., who is given the chance to compete for the heavyweight title. The film also stars Talia Shire as Adrian (Rocky's love interest), Burt Young as Adrian's brother Paulie, Burgess Meredith as Rocky's trainer Mickey Goldmill, and Carl Weathers as the reigning champion, Apollo Creed.
