Back to the Future is a 1985 American science fiction film directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Zemeckis and Bob Gale. It stars Michael J. Fox as teenager Marty McFly, who accidentally travels back in time to 1955, meeting his future parents and becoming his mother's romantic interest. Christopher Lloyd portrays Marty's friend Doctor Emmett "Doc" Brown, an eccentric scientist and inventor of the time-traveling DeLorean automobile, who helps Marty repair history and return to 1985. The cast also includes Lea Thompson, Crispin Glover, and Thomas F. Wilson.

In China, only films deemed “suitable for all ages” get a release. So there’s more than likely a lot of Disney movies playing non-stop. After the time-travel trend picked up speed, the country’s media authorities decided to ban all-time travel in film and television. They believe that the sci-fi notion “disrespects history.” Time travel movies typically share the theme of escape, which doesn’t sit well with Chinese officials.

“Producers and writers are treating serious history in a frivolous way, which should by no means be encouraged anymore,” China’s State Administration of Radio, Film and Television said. Let’s just say you won’t go Back to the Future anytime soon if you’re living in China.
