William Laughlin
Dane Kiddie,
Which word are you referring to? I don't recall seeing any British vs American spelling conflicts.

William Laughlin
Pat Askew,
The original word was spelled "minuscule".
"Miniscule" is becoming acceptable because so many people MISSPELL "minuscule" that way.
Language changes with usage. That's why "irregardless" is considered to be a real word, even though its meaning is the same as "regardless".
Like "miniscule", "irregardless" is considered poor form by language purists because of its literal, double-negative meaning, but constant (mis)usage dictates it be included in the dictionary.

One of the answers is wrong. They marked the correct spelling for miniscule as wrong. Which means I got one more right than it said.
