Linda Wyeth, streaming this from a different commenter It seems it is you who has forgotten elementary school mathematics. It still makes sense today. The rules of mathematics are immutable and have not changed since the 50s. Remember the order of operations, PEMDAS. Since there are no Parentheses or Exponents, we do Multiplication and Division next, in the order they appear in the equation from left to right, followed by Addition and Subtraction in the order they appear in the equation from left to right. The equation is: 8 + 8 ÷ 8 + 8 × 8 - 8 = X Doing Multiplication & Division first, it becomes 8 + (8 ÷ 8) + (8 × 8) - 8 = X which becomes 8 + 1 + 64 - 8 = X or 9 + 64 - 8 = X or 73 - 8 = X or 65 = X

Joe Roloff, actually that part is really old basic math. New math has a different way of teaching combinations.

Dear God, I’d think that quizz club folks would know how to do math but based in the comments, seems that less than 10% actually can.

Brian Gantnier, order of operations doesn’t mean left to right, it means PEMDAS. In this case (with no parentheses or exponents), do multiplication and division first, then addition and subtraction. A previous comment explained it in detail.

Alex Markin, I don’t think any of it is related to iq.

8+8=16, 16/8=2, 2+8=10, 10*8=80, 80-8=72! You want certain parts of an equation done first, then you put them in PARENTHESES!
