I totally disagree with #5. Max was a wild thing. He told his mother "I'll eat you up!" and she sent him to bed with no dinner. His room became a jungle and Max sailed off to the island of the Wild Things. He became king of the wild things until he decided to go home. The wild things told him "Please don't go! We'll eat you up! We love you so!"
It's a charming flight into imagination but it surely does not teach one not to judge others by their appearance.
