Elizabeth Petty, Merseyside is a metropolitan county, like West Midlands and Greater Manchester. These metropolitan counties were formed in 1974. Until then both Liverpool and Manchester were in Lancashire (Birmingham was in Warwickshire) but Liverpool is now in Merseyside. Don’t worry, you’re only 47 years behind the times...😉😉
