wordster, there is a difference between a Country and a Teriitory. There are 12 independent countries. Yes, a lot of Quizz Club answers are wrong, but this isn't one of them.

Pat Askew, P.S. - Namibia has been independent since 1990. Only the out islands and Walvis bay were under South African control until 1994.

Richard D. Boyle, Fluid? How so? Do parts of them leak into their neighbors? Can you cite some credible examples? Most countries have rather strong feelings about their borders.

There are in fact 13 countries in South America, not 12 as the "answer" claims." They include Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Suriname, Guyana, and French Guiana. Count 'em. Then fix that test.

There are 14 countries in South America and Eritrea was established in 1993 making it the oldest of the choices in Question 8. And Donald Anderson is correct. I looked after I read his post: Niue is an island nation that established its independence in October 1974.
